A look at the best fitness classes in Marrakech: small group training, HYROX, CrossFit, strength. Why Dune Training stands apart.
Want to try?
Your 1st session here to guide you through every exercise.
The fitness scene in Marrakech has grown fast. You've got chain gyms, hotel fitness rooms, boutique studios, and everything in between. But here's the thing most of them have in common: massive classes where the instructor can't actually see what you're doing. It's fine for burning calories, sure. Not so much for actually getting better at anything.
If you've done the rounds of the gyms in Gueliz and Hivernage, you know exactly what we're talking about. Big step classes, body pump sessions with 40 people, spin classes in the dark where the coach screams at you. It's entertainment, not coaching. And after 3 months, you're in the same shape you started. except now you've got a membership you're paying for.
Why small group beats everything else
At Dune Training, we cap every class at 12 people. That's it. No exceptions. It means your coach actually knows your name. They know you tweaked your shoulder last week, so they'll swap the overhead press for a landmine press. They remember you hit 60 kg on your deadlift and they'll push you to try 65. That kind of attention doesn't exist in a room of 30 people.
We tried other numbers before landing on 12. At 8, the experience is great but the cost per person gets too high. At 16, the coach starts losing track. Twelve is the sweet spot: enough energy in the room to keep things buzzing, small enough that everyone gets individual attention. Practically speaking, if you're doing something dangerous, your coach spots it within 5 seconds. In a class of 30, they might never see it.
What's on the schedule
We run over 10 different class formats. HYROX prep for competition athletes and cardio lovers. this is the racing format that's blowing up globally right now. CrossFit WODs for those who like intensity and variety with a mix of weightlifting, gymnastics, and conditioning. Iron Muscle for the barbell crowd: squat, bench, deadlift with 6-8 week progression cycles.
Powerbuilding blends powerlifting and bodybuilding. heavy compound lift first, then targeted accessories. Booty Builder for serious glute work: 100 kg hip thrusts, Bulgarian split squats, weighted walking lunges with a barbell. Gymnastics for skill work like handstands, muscle-ups, and ring training. Athletic Core for functional midline strength. not crunches, real core work that transfers to sport.
We also have Weightlifting for the snatch and clean and jerk, Mobility classes for chronic tightness (there's a lot of that in people who sit at a desk all day), and the Saturday Challenge. a competitive, fun format to close out the week. Every month the Saturday Challenge changes format. Sometimes it's a mini-HYROX, sometimes a CrossFit-style workout, sometimes something entirely original.
The community factor
People talk about community in fitness and usually it's just marketing. Here, it's real. The 6:30 PM crew has been training together for months. They push each other, they celebrate PRs, they show up even on the hard days. They meet up after training, they message each other on lazy days. That accountability is worth more than any training plan.
We have members who call Dune Training their therapy. After a stressful work day, they come in for an hour and clear their heads. The vibe in the gym is intense but not aggressive. People push each other without being obnoxious about it. No toxic competition, just people who want to get better together.
Programming that actually makes sense
Every class format follows structured programming. HYROX runs in 8-12 week cycles with dedicated blocks: endurance, strength, station technique, simulation. CrossFit follows a 6-week cycle with integrated skill work. Iron Muscle runs linear or undulating progression depending on the phase. This isn't content pulled from Instagram the night before. it's thought out and progressive.
And you feel the difference in results. When exercises build logically from week to week, your body adapts and improves. When it's random, you train hard without going anywhere. That's the difference between a program and noise.
Scheduling that works
Early birds? We open at 7 AM. Lunch break warriors working in Gueliz? We've got midday slots. Evening crowd? Classes run until 8:30 PM. Monday through Saturday, with the Saturday Challenge closing out the week for anyone who wants to test themselves. Check our schedule online and book ahead. slots fill up fast.
We're at 60 Avenue Mohammed V in Gueliz, Marrakech. Easy to reach by car or tram. First class is free, no strings attached. Come see for yourself. We won't promise you'll love it. we'll promise you'll feel the difference.
What it costs
The unlimited monthly membership runs around 800 MAD. That includes access to every class, small group coaching, and all the equipment. Compared to personal training at 300-500 MAD per session in Marrakech, it's unbeatable value. We also offer 5 and 10 session packs for people who prefer flexibility. No long-term contracts, no hidden fees.
What to Wear to Your First Class
No special outfit required. Sport shoes with decent support (skip pure running shoes. they are too soft for lifting), comfortable shorts or leggings, and a breathable shirt. Bring a water bottle and a small towel. If you are doing the HYROX or CrossFit class, cross-training shoes like the Nike Metcon or Reebok Nano are ideal because they give you stability for strength movements and enough flex for running segments.
Your First Day: What to Expect
Show up 10 minutes before class. The coach asks about injuries or limitations. They show you around and set you up at a station. Warm-up lasts 10 to 15 minutes. joint mobility, muscle activation, progressive cardio. Then the main block runs 30 to 40 minutes. The coach gives you alternatives for every exercise if the prescribed weight is too heavy or a movement does not suit you. Nobody judges you. Everyone started somewhere.
The 3-Month Progression Path
Month one is about learning the movements and finding your bearings. Month two, you start loading heavier and feel more comfortable chaining exercises together. Month three is when real results show: your clothes fit differently, you sleep better, you have more energy throughout the day, and your gym performance improves in measurable ways. This progression curve is typical for our members who come 3 to 4 times per week consistently.
Coach Qualifications
Our coaches are not class entertainers. They hold CrossFit Level 1 and 2 certifications, official HYROX training credentials, and backgrounds in physical preparation and weightlifting. Some have competed in CrossFit and HYROX themselves. They program classes following long-term progression cycles. And they keep learning. we invest in regular continued education so our team stays at the cutting edge of training methods.
Why Group Classes Beat Solo Training
Research backs it up: people who train in groups are 26 percent more consistent than those who train alone. The group dynamic creates positive social accountability. You do not want to let your crew down. And during class, the collective energy pushes you to an effort level you would never reach alone in a corner of a gym. That is why our members who switch from solo training to group classes at Dune Training progress faster and stick with it longer.
Drop-In Friendly for Visitors
Traveling through Marrakech and want to keep training? Our day pass gives you full access to any class on the schedule. No watered-down visitor experience. You train alongside our regular members with the same coaching and same intensity. We have hosted visitors from over a dozen countries who keep coming back every trip. A few have even relocated to Marrakech partly because of the training community they found here.
Last month a member hit her first strict pull-up after training with us for ten weeks. The whole 6:30 PM class erupted. That moment captures what makes this place different from a regular gym. When you train alongside the same people three or four times a week, you witness their journey and they witness yours. Victories become shared. That kind of support does not happen in a gym where nobody knows your name.
Ready to see what it feels like? Walk into Dune Training at 60 Avenue Mohammed V in Gueliz any weekday between 7 AM and 8:30 PM or Saturday morning. Your first class is completely free with no strings attached. Pick the class format that interests you, train with the group, and judge for yourself. We do not do high-pressure sales pitches. Just one honest hour of coaching, and you decide from there.
Something worth mentioning for people comparing gyms around Marrakech: most places give you access to a space. We give you access to a system. Structured programming, coach accountability, progress tracking, and a group that expects you to show up. That system is what turns inconsistent gym-goers into people who train four times a week without thinking twice. The equipment matters, but the system is what changes your habits.
One more thing worth mentioning: we genuinely like meeting new faces at the gym. The regulars are friendly, the coaches remember your name after the first session, and nobody takes themselves too seriously. Fitness is supposed to be fun, and that vibe is something you feel the moment you walk through the door at 60 Avenue Mohammed V in Gueliz. Come try a free class and see for yourself.
